Backflow Prevention

What is backflow?

Backflow is the undesirable reversal of flow in a potable water distribution system. Water that is always under pressure can only flow in one direction.

What is a backflow prevention assembly?

A backflow prevention assembly prevents water from flowing back into the City water distribution system due to pressure changes in the customer’s system or the City’s system.

Backflow Testing

Annual backflow testing is REQUIRED on backflow prevention assemblies. Please see this document for additional information.

Vepo LLC operates our backflow prevention program database. Plumbers and individuals that are certified to test backflow prevention assemblies through Texas Commission of Environmental Quality can simply visit www.vepollc.com, create a user ID, submit the fees related to your test, and enter the test data. Only a certified backflow prevention tester can test backflow prevention assemblies. Click here to download a Quick Start Guide with information on how to become a registered BPAT.

GFU requires clear access to water meters at all times!

Parked vehicles, overgrown plants, yard debris, and construction materials prevent meter readers and maintenance crews from doing their jobs.

Please keep your meter clear:

  • Keep bushes and grass trimmed to the edge of the meter box.
  • Remove all branches hanging lower than six feet over the box.
  • Keep everything off the meter box, including trash cans and recycling bins.
